Personal Review: 9.5 out of 10

When I was pregnant I had the idyllic dream of all the time I would spend cooking homemade meals for my family. This dream included my plan to make my son’s babyfood. Reality was a different situaiton. When I worked full time, I barely had a moment to catch my breath, let alone make babyfood! Then my mom got me the Beaba Babycook as a gift and I use this steam cooker and blender ALL THE TIME! The first baby food that I made for my son was roasted blueberries with cinnamon. I used the Babycook to blend them to the perfect texture. That was one year ago, and I have consistently used it since then. Just today I used it to make “ice cream” from frozen bananas and peanut butter for my little guy’s swollen teething gums and to steam green beans for dinner for the family. It is so incredibly versatile! I use it for everything. It takes up very little space on my kitchen counter. It comes apart and cleans easily. I actually thought it was hand wash only until I went to write this review and realized, to my great happiness and surprise, it is dishwasher safe!

Product Details

Dimensions: 7 x 9 x 10 inches

Bowl size: 4.7 cups (that is over 17 servings of baby food!)

Cook Time: 20 minutes or less

4-in-1 Capability means that one product can accomplish four tasks: cooking, blending, reheating, and defrosting.

The Babycook comes with a spatula and a mixing lid, for ease of use and splatter guard. The steamer basket removes easily so that you may then blend what you’ve steamed, or blend something new! It also includes a handy recipe booklet that explains how much water to use depending on what you are cooking.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning the Babycook is simple. All parts come apart for hand washing or, most parts can be placed in the dishwasher. I would advise that you pay close attention to how the blade is put back together. It is very easy to put the bottom gasket that connects the blade in upside down. The mistake will be immediately evident as it will cause the blender to leak.

As with your other kitchen appliances, you will need to descale the Babycook occasionally. You can do this by adding distilled white vinegar or the specialized Babycook cleaning product. I have always used the vinegar. You follow the steps in the instruction manual, it is pretty much the same way you descale a coffee pot. Because the water reservoir opening is dark, you cannot see in to tell if it needs descaling. But, the machine will tell you itself, by glowing red instead of white when you plug it in and it is time to be descaled.

What I Dislike about the Babycook

There is very little that I dislike about this product. I do find it annoying that there is no easy place to store the mixing lid. You can’t close the blender with both the basket and the mixing lid in it. This is not a big deal though, and I just store the lid in a drawer. The other issue I have had is that if you don’t close the top correctly, it will pop open a few minutes into steaming. This isn’t a problem if you are in the same room as it beeps and is pretty obvious that the lid just needs to be closed correctly. However, if you set it and then leave the kitchen to go do other things, it can be frustrating to come back to find your food has not cooked. There are clear instructions on the Babycook about making sure the lid is closed properly, so I really only have user error to blame for that!

Conclusion

If you want to have yummy, homemade food for your baby (and even your whole family) that is convenient, quick, and healthy, I suggest you buy the BEABA Babycook 4 in 1 Steam Cooker and Blender. Yes, it is a financial commitment up front, but in the end, it will save you money when you consider all that you spend buying jars and pouches of baby food. By making it yourself, you know all the ingredients and that  and is more environmentally friendly than buying disposable packages of baby food off the grocery store shelves. The Babycook’s 4-in-1 design is probably it’s best element. In one compact appliance you can accomplish four tasks: cooking, blending, reheating, and defrosting. Using the BEABA Babycook is so simple. After a long day of running after babies, I love that I can throw anything in this steamer/blender and know that it will help me make a delicious and healthy meal for my family.

If you have a Babycook, please leave a comment and let me know what you think about it! I am also happy to answer any questions you may have about the product. I hope you enjoyed my review of the Babycook!
